“David and Victoria have repeatedly asked Brooklyn and Nicola to meet and talk in order to move forward,” a source close to the Beckhams revealed. The couple has also continued to invite Brooklyn and Nicola to family events, such as David’s knighthood ceremony in October. “Of course, Brooklyn and Nicola were invited to his knighthood and after-gathering. They have always been invited to all family occasions or events, whether private or public,” the source added.
However, an insider close to Nicola has refuted these claims. “The assertion that Brooklyn and Nicola have been invited to all events and that David and Victoria have made sincere efforts to mend things is untrue,” the insider said. “Neither parent has reached out to Nicola in almost a year.”
The situation took a more dramatic turn on January 8, when The Sun reported that Brooklyn had sent his parents a legal notice, instructing them to contact him only through lawyers. The notice also allegedly demanded that they refrain from tagging him on social media. This legal warning follows Brooklyn blocking his parents online, reportedly after an Instagram “like” from Victoria Beckham was seen as a breach of the legal request. The Daily Mail further claims that Brooklyn made the decision to block his parents last summer.
Despite the ongoing tension, neither David and Victoria Beckham’s representatives nor Brooklyn and Nicola’s reps immediately responded to requests for comment from PEOPLE.
